Do you need power for your next shot? Hold down the yellow button longer (you'll see your power gauge fill up in front of your kart).
You can always adjust the power of your strike: some shots require more finesse than strength...
Don't forget that the balls can't go through the karts! They will bounce back just like on the edges of the table.
